The regeneration of Dundee’s Hilltown is progressing after plans were revealed for a new school and nursery.
A proposal of planning notice was lodged with Dundee City Council for the development, which would be located on Alexander Street.
The building would cater for up to 500 pupils and 114 pre-school and nursery pupils, including those currently at Rosebank and Our Lady’s RC primary schools.
Education convener Stewart Hunter said: “The plans are pretty much in place.
“As well as the school there will be community and NHS facilities, but those are taking a little longer to finalise.
“The project board has included head teachers, parents and pupils of Rosebank and Our Lady’s RC schools, who have given their views on the development.
“The next stage will be to hold a public exhibition so that the community can tell us what they think.
“We want to make sure that we get this right and so I would urge as many people as possible to come to the event.”
As well as the school and community hub, there are plans to build up to 120 homes in the Hilltown as part of the ongoing regeneration.
The council is spending £15 million to replace the Derby Street tower blocks, which were demolished in 2013.
Work is expected to start this year, beginning with the creation of 77 social rented homes in conjunction with Hillcrest Housing Association.
In time, the number of homes could be increased to 120.
Dundee’s housing convener John Alexander said: “The regeneration process is starting to move forward now.
“A third of the site earmarked for development will be taken up by housing and there will also be a school with community and health facilities.
“It will be something like a hub, but I can’t comment further while the planning process is running.”
An exhibition to gauge public reaction will take place on March 29 and 30, from 3pm to 7pm, at Rosebank and Our Lady’s RC primary schools.
