The violent assault took place on Arklay Street.

A Dundee man could be left permanently disfigured after suffering serious facial injuries in a street attack.

Police appealed for witnesses following the assault on a 36-year-old man in Arklay Street at the weekend.

An eyewitness said a “large area of blood” had been left on the pavement and claimed the man was slashed in the face.

The incident took place around 5pm on Saturday at the junction with Fleming Gardens.

Police Scotland confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway and asked anyone with information that could assist the inquiry to come forward.

Officers are keen to trace the lone male attacker, who is understood to be aged between 18 and 20.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police Scotland can confirm that officers are making inquiries into a serious assault that happened on Arklay Street at about 5pm on Saturday.

“A 36-year-old man suffered facial injuries in connection with the incident.

“Officers are keen to trace a man aged between 18 and 20 who was wearing dark coloured fleece and khaki camouflage trousers.

“He is understood to be around 5ft 6in in height and of slim build.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said paramedics had attended the scene around 5.23pm.

She added: “An ambulance attended a male who had been assaulted. He was transferred to Ninewells.”

She had no details of the man’s injuries.

Councillor Craig Melville said: “It sounds horrific. Any kind of assault is wrong. If anybody has any information that could assist police with inquiries, please pass it on.”

Anyone who has information that could assist the inquiry should call Police Scotland on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
