More communities in Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perth and Kinross have been included in BT’s roll-out of high-speed fibre optic broadband.
Another 18,500 homes and businesses in Dundee are to be included in the £2.5 billion commercial roll-out of fibre optic broadband, which is expected to help create jobs and boost the local economy.
Dundee’s Claverhouse and Steeple exchange areas will be upgraded by the end of spring 2014. Claverhouse Exchange serves the Whitfield and Linlathen areas as well as Claverhouse itself, and Steeple covers parts of the city centre.
The expansion also includes an investment in making fibre optic broadband more widely available in areas which already have the high-speed technology or are due to receive it.
In Angus, around 4,800 premises will benefit, along with 4,300 in Perth and Kinross and 20,700 in Fife. These include upgrades for Carnoustie, Blairgowrie and four Fife communities Dysart, Kennoway, Lochgelly and South Glenrothes.
Across Scotland, around 291,000 homes and businesses are to benefit from the latest announcement.
Brendan Dick, BT Scotland director, said: “This latest investment is a major vote of confidence in Scotland’s future success.
“It will be a key part of our economic revival as we finally shrug off the effects of the downturn and create a better, more prosperous future.”
