Family’s belongings stolen while they slept

A young Dundee family have had their treasured possessions stolen from their home as they slept.

The couple and their three small children were in bed just metres away from the thieves, who even helped themselves to the contents of their fridge.

Agnieszka Piotrowska (29) and partner Grzegorz Symak (29), originally from Poland, moved to the Dryburgh area of the city in September last year with their children Robert (4), Anna (2) and nine-month-old Joanna.

Agnieszka said: ”We had built up what we had over five years and then Grzegorz lost his job when we moved to Dundee. Now they have taken everything we had.”

When the family went downstairs on Saturday morning they found the TV was not on the wall.

”We went into the dining room and saw that the computer and the camera had gone,” Agnieszka said. ”They took the Xbox and the DVD player, and the speakers, games and remote controls were all gone.”

She added: ”I’m just so happy the children didn’t come downstairs while the thieves were here. At first I felt angry that none of us woke up and stopped them, but now I feel relieved that we didn’t and that they didn’t come upstairs.

”I keep thinking that what they’ve taken is only money someone could have taken one of the children and I just can’t imagine that.”

As well as the expensive items, the thieves also helped themselves to a bottle of milk, two packets of minced meat and a block of cheese from the fridge, as well as the blue recycling bin from the side of the house.

Agnieszka said: ”I can understand why they would want to take the TV, but why would you steal milk?”

The opportunist thieves had gone into the kitchen after the family accidentally left the door unlocked before they went to bed.

Agnieszka explained: ”We were just so busy with the children in the evening as always. It is so quiet here and it’s a good place to live. This kind of thing is not typical at all.”

A police spokeswoman said: ”We are following positive lines of inquiry and we would appeal for any witnesses to come forward.”
