Police investigating webcam footage of suspected Kirkton car vandals

Police are keen to trace two youths in connection with a vandalism spree in Kirkton.

Several cars parked on Gilburn Road were scratched and scored over the weekend and Monday, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

One of those left counting the cost is Robert Weir (37), whose Citroen C4 and two-week old Toyota IQ were targeted in the attack.

It was not a one off-case, according to Mr Weir, who said the vehicles were scratched three times over three consecutive days.

Upset and annoyed he decided to set up a webcam from an upstairs bedroom overlooking the road at the weekend.

It didn’t take long before his efforts were rewarded and the two youths who are suspected of carrying out the vandalism fell into view.

”The footage is now with Tayside Police as evidence,” said Mr Weir who works as a nurse at Ninewells Hospital. ”It’s exceptionally frustrating and it’s actually got to the stage where I am thinking about moving house.

”It’s expensive to repair the cars and I am in a job where I haven’t had a pay rise in three years so times are quite hard.”

Mr Weir expects a bill of almost £1,000 to carry out repairs on both vehicles, which have long and in places deep scores carved into the side panels.

A police spokesman said: ”Tayside Police is investigating the vandalism of several cars in Gilburn Road area of Dundee, which happened sometime between Saturday June 23 and Monday June 25.

”Officers are keen to trace two youths seen in the area at the time. One is described as male, aged 14-16 years old about 5ft 6in in height with curly dark hair wearing a white T-shirt and dark trousers.

”The other is described as aged 12-14 years old, 5ft 2in in height with short blonde hair wearing a white T-shirt, cream trousers and dark shoes.”
