A young motorcyclist killed in an accident in Fife had only passed his test last month.
Craig Kaempfe died on Tuesday in Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, after his red Honda was involved in a collision with a white Transit van near Glenrothes.
The 22-year-old, who had recently moved from the family home near Craigrothie to Peat Inn, passed his motorcycle test seven weeks ago after learning with Kirkcaldy rider and driver training centre ProScot.
His family, of Little Muirhead Farmhouse, yesterday asked to be left to grieve in private but paid tribute to the apprentice plumber in a statement issued via Fife Police.
They said, “Craig Kaempfe was a loved son, brother and friend and he will be sorely missed by family and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the emergency team.”
Deputy head of road policing Inspector Brenda Sinclair said, “Our thoughts are with Craig’s family at this sad time.”
Although he did not know Craig, chairman of the local community council Grant Robertson said, “We are saddened at this loss.”
The accident occurred around 8.45am between Windygates and Milton of Balgonie.
It resulted in the closure of the road for five hours while investigations were conducted.
No one else was hurt.
Police are continuing their investigation and appealed for any witnesses to come forward. They can be contacted on 0845 600 5702.
