Drivers are being warned to expect delays between Longannet Power Station and Grangemouth docks this Sunday as a piece of heavy machinery takes to the roads.
Fife Council’s transport services has advised drivers to expect delays between 7am and 10am.
The disruption is due to the 492-tonne transformer being transported to Scottish Power’s Longannet power station.
The transformer will be moved by a girder frame trailer that is 5.7 metres wide and has an overall length of 90 metres.
The 576-tonne combined trailer and tractor units will travel at a maximum speed of 12mph.
The agreed route has taken account of the size and weight of the load and uses roads in the Fife and Central Scotland areas.
The load will leave Grangemouth Docks and travel along the A904, A905 and A876 before turning north on to the A977 and over the new Clackmannanshire Bridge over the River Forth.
Once on the south side of the river, it will then head along the A985 and into the power station.
It is intended the movement of the load will be completed by 10am, to minimise disruption.
Contingency plans will be in place if the movement is delayed by unforeseen circumstances, and hold points for the transformer have been allocated along the M90 for it to continue on a later night.
Police from Fife and Tayside will accompany the load throughout its journey and will direct motorists when it is necessary.
The movement will be carried out by specialist haulage company Allelys Heavy Haulage on behalf of Scottish Power.
BEAR Scotland will carry out modification and restoration of street furniture to allow the operation to take place and will also accompany the transformer throughout the journey.
