Postal votes sent out for Kirkcaldy by-election

People voting in next week’s Kirkcaldy East by-election have been urged to ensure they read the ballot paper properly.

Residents take to the polls on Thursday January 22 to elect a new councillor to replace Arthur Morrison, who resigned in November.

Polling cards have already been sent out and anyone registered to vote by post will receive their packs this week.

Postal votes must be returned by 10pm on January 22 and anyone who has left it too late to post them can drop them off at any polling station or to the elections office at Fife House.

Voting will be done by numbers, with people asked to mark the candidates in the order of their choice.

Depute returning officer Linda Bissett said: “Whether you’re voting by post, proxy or on polling day, it’s important that you take time to read the instructions on the ballot paper to make sure your vote is counted.”

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm and schools being used as polling stations will be open to pupils and staff as normal.

However, Gallatown Nursery will close.
