The venue, Robbie’s Park, was so badly flooded during the winter that it had to be re-seeded. Organisers say the ground is just not ready to accommodate the games. Earlier in the year the games, which date back over a century, looked to be under threat because of a lack of volunteers. Following an urgent appeal, new volunteers have been recruited and organisers are looking forward to planning for next year. The Newburgh coble boat race, which is held in association with the event, has gone ahead as planned.
