Furious knife attack after ‘love triangle gone wrong’

A Kirkcaldy man attacked a love rival with a knife in his bedroom after he received a taunting text about his ex-girlfriend.

Jordan Slaven, 18, rushed around to his former partner’s house brandishing the blade after he was sent a message from his ex’s new boyfriend that he was sleeping in her bed.

Enraged Slaven, of East March Street, slashed at Andrew Dick with a kitchen knife, striking him over the eye before he was pushed to the ground.

Sheriff Max Hendry heard that Slaven continued to swing the knife at his love rival and hit him on the lower back and left hand.

However, Dick was able to gain the upper hand, disarming Slaven and punching him on the face.

Dick then took the knife outside into the garden, only for Slaven to retrieve the blade and face off with the complainer again.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia told Sheriff Hendry the incident was a “love triangle gone wrong”.

He said: “The accused was in a relationship with a woman that broke down prior to this incident. The complainer was staying at her house overnight when the attack occurred. The complainer sent the accused a text stating that he was sleeping in his ex’s bed.”

“The accused became enraged and left where he was. He barged into the bedroom and began swinging at Mr Dick.”

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday, Slaven admitted that on May 6 2013 at an address in Turpie Road, Leven, he assaulted Andrew Dick and entered the premises uninvited where he repeatedly struck him on the head and body with a knife to his injury. He committed the offence five days after having been granted bail.

Sheriff Hendry deferred sentence until next month for social work reports.
