Kirkcaldy cyclist leading Fife leg of this weekend’s Pedal on Parliament

A Kirkcaldy cyclist is urging Fifers to get in gear and pedal to Holyrood to campaign for safer cycling.

Jim Drummond is a supporter of Pedal on Parliament, which brought more than 4,000 cyclists on to Edinburgh’s streets in May last year calling for safer cycling conditions in Scotland.

This Saturday, Jim is again organising a ride from Kirkcaldy to the Meadows in Edinburgh, where cyclists will gather before heading to Holyrood as the campaign saddles up for a third mass demonstration.

The ride will be about 27 miles long, travelling at a pace of around 10-12mph and the group will pedal via Dalgety Bay and South Queensferry after leaving Kirkcaldy.

Starting at Kirkcaldy Prom Basin car park at 8.30am, the ride will pass via Dalgety Bay Rail Station, Inverkeithing High Street and Ferrymuir Retail/Business Park in South Queensferry.

Through Twitter alone, the message of the POP2014 Fife Feeder ride, #POPFife, has reached more than 120,000 people.

POP2014 will start from the Meadows in Edinburgh at noon and end at the Parliament building, where politicians will be presented with an eight-point manifesto the organisers believe will help make Scotland’s towns, cities and villages fit for cyclists aged from eight to 80.
