A rising stage star from Glenrothes is gearing up to tackle the complex role of Demetrius in City of Glasgow College’s contemporary and unique adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Damien McGrory, who studies HNC Acting and Performance at the college, will take to the stage of Webster’s Theatre in Glasgow this week.
The show follows the full plot of Shakespeare’s original story but adds a contemporary punk twist, including a soundtrack comprising Joy Division, The Clash, Blondie and Madness.
The 18-year-old said: “I’ve wanted to pursue a career as an actor since I was eight and was cast in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Being in the show was so much fun that it made me realise this is what I want to do with my life.
The former Auchmuty High School pupil added: “The most challenging thing has definitely been learning all my lines and figuring out how to make them funny but I’ve really enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to perform the play.”
The shows starts today and runs until Wednesday.
