Rare golf ball could raise plenty of the green stuff

A rare feather-filled golf ball will take centre stage at an auction being held next week to coincide with the Open at St Andrews.
Lyon and Turnbull will sell the ball, valued at £5,000 to £8,000, on Wednesday at an exclusive sale of golfing memorabilia being held at the Eden Club, Pittormie Castle, Dairsie.
The auction will have 37 lots including items from a private collection.
The ball was made by William Gourlay around 1830 and was originally part the Royal Perth Golfing Society’s collection.
Lyon and Turnbull’s Paul Roberts said: “This is a very exciting opportunity to take part in an exclusive auction of important golfing items.”
