The operator of Kirkcaldy’s leisure centre has said that it is trying to stop the parking chaos that surrounds the building.
The Courier revealed last week that traffic wardens would be patrolling outside the centre in the evening as fitness fanatics continue to park on pavements and double yellow lines to make use of the facilities.
With access to the centre’s car park virtually at gridlock at peak times, Fife Council has said it will act in the coming weeks to tackle inconsiderate parking.
Backing the local authority’s action, Fife Sports & Leisure Trust, which operates Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre on behalf of Fife Council, has said it will try to redirect users to appropriate car parks nearby.
Paul Hossack, the trust’s area leisure manager, said: “We continue to work with Fife Council in monitoring the car parking availability around Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre, and we ensure that parking information is readily available within the centre and online for our customers.
“The recent decision by Fife Council to offer reduced car parking fees in town is ideal for our customers as it allows time to enjoy the facility at affordable rates, and, we have free, extended-hours parking in the nearby Fife Council Esplanade multi-storey car park for evening customers.”
Parking enforcement normally ends at 6pm in Kirkcaldy, meaning that drivers at the pool have been free to park wherever they like.
However, in light of recent problems, Tony McRae, the lead professional for parking at Fife Council, said that evening patrols would now commence.
