Marks and Spencer heading to Glenrothes after town centre development plans are approved
ByJonathan Watson
High street giant Marks and Spencer is poised to open in Glenrothes after plans for a major new shopping and leisure complex were approved in principle.
Members of Fife Council’s central area planning committee gave the green light for a new retail centre to be constructed at the town’s North Street, directly opposite the Kingdom Shopping Centre.
In what is set to be the biggest shake-up to the town centre for a generation, councillors stated their hope that the new complex will attract a host of top retailers and restaurants, helping to establishing the nighttime economy craved by so many in the town.
Though no names have been confirmed as yet, The Courier understands that restaurant chains Frankie and Benny’s and KFC are also monitoring developments at the new complex.
