Vandals back to cause more damage at Glenrothes Cricket Club

Vandals targeted a Glenrothes sports club, leaving a trail of devastation their wake.

Items were left strewn across Riverside Park after the pavilion of Glenrothes Cricket Club was ransacked in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Bats, clothing and other items were all taken from the club pavilion, while items within the clubhouse, including a recently-purchased television, were all destroyed in what is the latest attack on the club’s property.

Operations manager Kenny Crichton admitted the damage was hard to take.

“It is very frustrating,” he said. “It must have been in the early hours of the morning as they’ve taken ice out of the freezer and it’s not fully melted yet.

“Two doors have been broken and the juices and crisps from the club shop have been thrown about the place.

“The fire extinguishers have been taken out and used too.

“There’s clothing and bats as well and stuff as far as top of the hill.

“There’s evidence all over the park. One chap came down this morning and asked me if there had been a murder.”

A large police presence was at Riverside Park, with the pavilion sealed off as officers conducted a search for clues.

This latest episode comes just two months after metal protective covers for the wickets, valued at £8,000, were also damaged by vandals.

“We’re only trying to better the community but these people have got nothing better to do than rip our clubhouse apart,” added Mr Crichton.

“We want to do something good for Glenrothes but this will probably cost us around £1,200 to £1,300 which is a lot of money for a small club.”
