Hollywood star Hugh Grant will have to give at least Two Weeks’ Notice next time he wants to eat at a St Andrews restaurant and even that may not be enough.
However, fellow A-lister Michael Douglas will be welcome back any time after he charmed staff at the Seafood Restaurant.
Both celebrities were in town for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship over the weekend. However, Grant a regular visitor to the town has blotted his copybook after breaking a booking at the fashionable eaterie.
In stark contrast, Douglas delighted employees as he enjoyed his first visit to the restaurant after suffering from cancer.
”We were delighted to see Michael Douglas back after his ill health,” said Seafood Restaurant owner Tim Butler. ”He came six years ago during the Dunhill but we had not seen him for a while because of his illness.
”We had all been looking out for him and it was great to see him back enjoying himself and looking so well.”
Other stars to have popped in over the last few days include Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres.
”It has been a fabulous weekend the atmosphere in St Andrews and in the restaurant has been tremendous,” Mr Butler said.
However, the restaurateur will have significant reservations should Grant ever fancy a return.
”If Hugh Grant wanted to book a table in his own name we would not take that booking,” he continued. ”He books tables in several restaurants and then decides which one to go to.”
Staff at the Seafood Restaurant were particularly dismayed when Grant booked a table, only for a hotel concierge to phone up at the last minute and report he had changed his mind.
Mr Butler said such behaviour was totally out of line no matter your status.
”It is not fair to us or the other top restaurants in the area as somebody loses out.”
Grant’s discourteous behaviour aside, the Dunhill has been described as a massive success.
Tourism providers enjoyed a busy few days, while celebrity spotters and golf fans alike insisted the poor weather over the latter part of the weekend had done little to dampen their enthusiasm.
