Fife Society for the Blind has appointed a new client services manager.
Jill Beaton, who previously worked as an orthoptist with NHS Fife, is taking over the role of orientation and mobility specialist, and social worker, from longstanding employee Jim Crooks, who retired last month.
Announcing the appointment, chief executive Alan Suttie said: “We are very excited as it will help us to move our focus to better meeting the needs of the vast majority of those with age-related sight loss.
“Over the years, the profile of clients has changed to one where we are serving more people with useful remaining sight.
“What people are looking for from us is help to maximise on the use of their remaining sight helping them to retain their independence. We are the first organisation of this type to appoint an orthoptist to this position, but we believe their very special training brings a new set of skills to our team.”
Jill said: “I am excited to become a member of the team at Fife Society for the Blind.”
