Angus charity champ’s return sees him jumping for joy

Bobby Campbell back to familiar territory in the shadow of the Edzell arch.
Edzell charity champ Bobby Campbell is jumping for joy after being able to hit the road again.
Over the decades, the 68-year-old has covered more than 100,000 miles for good causes but feared he was being forced to give up his walking after experiencing pain in his replacement hips.
Not keen to completely give up the fundraising that saw him honoured with an MBE in 1996, Bobby pulled on the boxing gloves and vowed to spend two hours a day at a punchbag outside his home to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.
“I was walking about eight miles a day every day but I began to get pain in my hips and thought it was something serious,” he said.
“My heart was telling me to carry on, but my head told me it was time to stop.”
After x-rays, however, it has turned out that bruising at the bottom of Bobby’s back following a fall was the source of his discomfort and he has now resumed his daily walk and will once again be a familiar sight on the straight leading towards Brechin from Edzell arch.
“I’m starting off at just a few miles a day but hopefully I’ll be building up. “My hips are fine and it’s great to be back on the road,” he said.
