A police dog unit has joined the search for missing Angus woman Joyce Howie.

The RAF sent its Kinloss search and rescue helicopter to help the overnight hunt for Joyce Howie, 67.

She has not been heard from since Wednesday night and teams focused a land and sea search near her home at Lunan, near Montrose, on Thursday night.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said the search had resumed at 8am today.

The search and rescue helicopter from RAF Kinloss will not join the search today although it is anticipated a Police Scotland air unit will join the search in the afternoon.

A police spokesman said: “We have a police search team out with a dog unit, and have again asked for the coastguard’s assistance.

“We are looking around Lunan Bay, the area’s forestry walks and path network as Ms Howie is very active and for her to go missing is out of character.”

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said lifeboats from Montrose, Carnoustie and Arbroath had been deployed in last night’s search, which did not end until around 1am.

“We have gone out again this morning with the all-weather (Arbroath) lifeboat,” he added.

Previously, Inspector Mark McInally told The Courier the force was using all the tools at its disposal to find Ms Howie.

Ms Howie was last spoken to by a family member over the phone at 9pm on Wednesday.

She is described as being of slight build, very active, with light brown hair and is approximately 5’4″ tall.

Anyone who believes they may know Ms Howie’s whereabouts is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
