Fireworks light up the Angus skies with spectacular displays

Fireworks lit up the sky over Arbroath.
Fireworks lit up the sky over Arbroath.

Angus skies were lit up on Saturday night by four fireworks celebrations.

Arbroath hosted a fireworks spectacular after a year’s hiatus, Carnoustie held its biggest event in its 30-year history, Edzell hosted its annual event at the Muir and Kirriemuir Hill was the venue for that town’s display.

Following a long fundraising campaign, Karren Cuthill and the Fireworks for Arbroath committee got the town’s festivities under way at Inchcape Park.

Callan Swankie, who is 10, won the competition to push the button and start the display on Saturday.

Further down the A92, a torchlit procession took place in Carnoustie, from Woodlands School to the Black Slab car park, where a bonfire was built up during the day.

A bumper crowd enjoyed what was described by organisers as the largest fireworks display in the town since the event began back in 1985.

Collection buckets were also out in force at the Carnoustie and Arbroath events to help raise funds for next year’s displays.

In Edzell, volunteers put on another bonfire and fireworks spectacular and the main reward for those involved was to see the grins and hear the cheers from the crowd.

Kirriemuir Round Table once again took the lead for the bonfire and display at The Hill, which also featured live music and fireworks.
