Man jailed for stabbing partner after she threw chilli at wall

A Dundee man repeatedly stabbed his partner after she threw a meal at the wall, a court has heard.

Peter Jarvis, 64, of Perth Prison, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court and was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for the attack.

Jarvis had previously admitted assaulting his partner by striking her on the body with a knife to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

His defence solicitor told the court the circumstances leading up to the attack were very strange as Jarvis had been of “good character” his whole life.

The incident took place at Dundee’s Byron Street on March 29 last year when Jarvis lost it after his partner threw a plate of chilli he had prepared against the wall.

Sheriff Tom Hughes told Jarvis custody was “inevitable” and he had even considered sending him to the High Court, which can impose longer sentences.

He said: “This is a very serious offence which caused significant injuries to your victim, in this case severe injury, permanent disfigurement and endangerment of her life.”

Jarvis was told he will be subject to a year of supervision on his release from prison.
