Dundee family businessman Raymond Hossick

Dundee family businessman Raymond Hossick

Respected Dundee businessman Raymond Hossick has died after a short illness.

Mr Hossick, who was 85, ran the family paper merchants AG Hossick for many years and led AGH Vending Machines Ltd.

Born in the city, he was the son of Alec Hossick, a baillie and Dundee councillor, who founded the two firms.

Mr Hossick was educated at Morgan Academy and retained strong ties to the school and his school friends throughout his life, among them his best man Charlie Menzies.

In his spare time, he often canvassed around the streets of Fintry for his father, who represented the area as an independent.

He spent some time at Fettes College in Edinburgh and then completed national service before returning to his studies with the intention of practising law.

Illness disrupted those studies and he chose instead to join the family business, becoming a director of AG Hossick and eventually assuming a senior role at both firms following his father’s retirement.

He proved to be a steady pair of hands and successfully grew AGH Vending until it was supplying businesses across Scotland with NCR among its local clients.

Mr Hossick married Rena and enjoyed 55 happy years until his wife’s death earlier this year.

He was a family man first and foremost but was also passionate about golf and was a member at Panmure, where he won many trophies and boasted a five handicap.

Much of his time was also dedicated to his roles as president of Abertay Probus Club and also as an elder at St Lukes and Queen Street Church in Broughty Ferry.

Mr Hossick is survived by his children Gordon, Hamish and Debbie and grandchildren Callum and Katie.
