Review: Stampy Cat, at Dundee Caird Hall it’s a generation game

The Courier’s John Price took his son along to Monday night’s Caird Hall appearance by YouTube Minecraft gaming sensation Stampy Cat. On a night reminiscent of Beatlemania, he remembers the words of another 1960s icon: don’t criticise what you can’t understand.

The hallowed Caird Hall has seen some great acts in its time.

Grandpa Bill saw The Beatles back in 64, I saw Radiohead in 98, and now the young lad has seen Stampy Cat in 2015.

The YouTube star received a rapturous response from the kids here tonight.

It doesn’t get any bigger for them than this particular moptop.

Many of us oldies find the appeal of watching someone else play a computer game hard to fathom let alone why it should provoke ear-splitting cheers.

They said the same about The Beatles.

This was a great night for the city and its screaming kids.

It is quite a coup to get such a star here.

Tonight I saw the future of rock’n’roll – and it’s Minecraft, on YouTube.

I don’t quite get it, but that’s ok.

It’s for the next generation, not for mine.
