Dundee WestFest are a bit nearer their target to fund the festival after an idea a year in the making saw Treasurer Sandy Greenhorn sacrifice his locks and beard in a fund raising head shave.

After the shave with a cutthroat razor at Perth Road Barbers and Shop, Benjamin Barkers, Sandy said, ÒI have always wanted to know how I would look after colleagues in the merchant navy used to have it done whilst in warmer climates but I never had the courage,Ó he continued Ò I had the idea during last yearÕs WestFest after one of the committee dyed their hair green for the final day so I started growing my hair then.Õ

Sandy still does not know how much he has raised with forms still in shops around Perth Road but is hoping for a few hundred pounds, the money will be split between WestFest and the Red Cross disaster appeal.

WestFest is still looking for local business to help with the cost of infrastructure on the final day, Chair Paola McClure said, Òwe still have a way to go to cover the costs of Big Sunday such as fencing, generators, insurance and even toilets, so if they haven't already IÕm calling on everybody to join in and contribute a little to make it happen.Ó She continued,Ó we have some really fun events planned that will be announced soon as well as a great line up of music on the Courier Rock talk stage. We want community groups to get in touch as we are offering a free opportunity to raise money for themselves. The more people join in the bigger and better Big Sunday will be.Ó

The week long festival starts on the 13th of June and runs until Big Sunday on the 19th, and will be packed with exhibitions, plays, music, and book readings. Westfest can be contacted through the website www. dundeewestfest.co.uk, email at westendfestival@rocketmail.com or Facebook Dundee WestFest.
