Fake policeman took woman’s personal details in St Andrews

Kelvin Swann appeared at Cupar Sheriff Court to admit to posing as a police officer.
A Guardbridge man took the personal details of a woman after posing as a police officer in St Andrews town centre.
Kelvin Swann, Miltonbank Crescent, instructed Nancy Davidson to attend a police station after speaking to her in South Street on 15 November last year.
He had stopped her after accusing her of committing a crime. He then took her name and address before telling her to attend a local police station.
Mr Swann (49) appeared at Cupar Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Sheriff Charles Macnair deferred sentence pending the findings of a criminal justice social work report as well as a restriction of liberty assessment.
Mr Swann will be sentenced next month. His plea of not guilty to a similar offence, said to have occurred in Abbey Street, St Andrews, on October 14, was accepted by the Crown.
