Vandals leave tree on A92 dual carriageway

Vandals chopped down a tree and left it lying across one lane of a Fife dual carriageway, the police have said.

A Freuchie driver hit the tree which was lying across the A92.

It happened at around 11.05pm on Tuesday, as the 52-year-old woman was driving her Kia car north between Bankhead and Preston roundabouts.

The tree was on the nearside lane of the dual carriageway and, although the woman was not injured, police say the 30 to 40ft tree had been chopped down and fell across the road.

Inspector Bill Harley said, “Clearly the actions of the people responsible for putting this tree across the road could have had disastrous consequences for the woman who crashed into it.

“Such culpable and reckless conduct is completely unacceptable and I would appeal to any person who may know anything about this incident to contact the police.”

In a separate incident, police were called to a car on fire in Canmore Path around 2.45am yesterday.

Fife Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the flames and initial inquiries point to the black BMW 316 Compact having been deliberately set ablaze.

Fire damage was also caused to a Seat Altea parked beside the BMW.

Inspector Harley said, “Setting fire to a vehicle parked in a residential street had the potential to cause not just significant damage to property but also injury to local residents.

“I am confident that some person will have an idea as to who is responsible for this thoughtless act and I would encourage them to contact us.”

Anyone with information about either incident can call the police on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
