An agoraphobic who has spent almost two years awaiting sentencing for a knife offence was finally remanded in custody yesterday.
Scott Doyle has made five appearances at Perth Sheriff Court since he admitted being in possession of a lock knife in the centre of Perth back in August 2010.
Each time he has appeared from custody, having been arrested on a warrant after failing to appear, he claimed that his condition made it difficult for him to leave the house.
He was twice granted bail by Sheriff Robert McCreadie, who yesterday attempted to bring the saga to a close by remanding the 27-year-old in custody to await sentence on July 3.
Doyle, of Camelon Crescent, Blantyre, pled guilty to being in possession of the knife in Perth’s Scott Street on May 4 2010.
Solicitor Erica Watson told the court: “Mr Doyle is agoraphobic and has difficulty leaving his home address. Due to his condition custody is a difficult place for him and he is wary of being remanded.”
Sheriff McCreadie, however, denied the latest attempt to secure bail.
