A retired doctor who practised in Newport and Tayport for 38 years, Dr Kenneth Mackintosh, has died after a brief illness.
Born in Torphins in 1930, Dr Mackintosh, who was 80, moved with his family to north Fife aged five when his father William became a GP in Newport.
Educated at New Park School, St Andrews, and Dundee High School, he followed his father into medicine, studying at St Andrews University. On graduating in 1954 he spent a year at Dundee Royal Infirmary.
National Service from 1955 to 1957 took him to Kenya and Uganda. On his return he joined the Newport practice with his father and Drs Ross and Taylor.
In 1959, he married Doris Murray, from Auchtermuchty, whom he met while working in Dundee. The couple had three children Neil, Fiona and Alan.
Neil also became a GP and serves in the same practice as his father did, which is now known as Tayview Medical Practice.
When Dr Mackintosh retired in 1995, he and Doris did a lot of travelling, visiting countries including Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, India, China, Canada and Brazil.
Dr Mackintosh is survived by Doris, their three children and eight grandchildren.
