Young people visiting Stanley Mills during the summer can take part in a new activity that asks them to find a missing worker.
Helping out with the fun day is John Robertson, who used to work at the site as a mechanic and is returning to his former place of employment to take part in the Mystery of the Missing Mechanic.
Designed to give children the opportunity to learn about life at the mill, the activity sees the youngsters turn detective to locate the man somewhere around the visitor attraction.
They have to follow clues to find John and along the way they will learn more about the role of mechanics at the mill by using a range of educational panels.
When they finally track down the worker, John will regale the children with tales of what it was like at Stanley Mills when it was still in operation.
Education officer Fiona Davidson said, “We held a very successful pilot exercise earlier this month, which went down a storm with the children.
“By involving previous workers, it helps bring the site to life for them in a very vivid way and allows them not only to find out more about an individual’s job, but also how they contributed to the overall working of this important site.
“The activity is about learning in a fun, informative way and can be adapted for different ages so is a great way to keep the kids entertained during the holidays, while learning more about their heritage.”
The next activity day at Stanley Mills is on Wednesday. For further information, contact Fiona Davidson on 01738 828 268 or email fiona.davidson@scotland.gsi.gov.uk
