Scone Palace is hoping that rocketing fuel prices and a struggling economy will not deter visitors from making 2011 one of its most successful seasons ever.

More than 100,000 people make their way through the gates of the palace and into its stunning grounds each year to soak up the history at the former crowning place of Scottish kings.

Over the years, however, the Scone Palace estate has adapted to play host to an increasingly diverse range of activities and events.

Staff are preparing for what they hope will be one of their busiest seasons yet, opening the doors to the public once again on Friday.

Administrator Elspeth Bruce has high hopes for 2011, with the estate keen to build on last year’s success.

“Despite the economic downturn, the estate enjoyed an excellent season in 2010, with events including Perth Races and the Scottish Game Fair firmly cementing our position as Scotland’s most visited private estate,” she said.

“2011 promises to be another very busy year as we launch our biggest-ever programme of events.”

The season’s highlight is likely to be the 80s Rewind Festival, taking place in the grounds from July 29-31. It will boast the biggest live outdoor line-up of 80s recording artists ever seen inclduing Tony Hadley, Rick Astley, Kim Wilde, Bananarama, The Human League and many more.

“In addition to the massive line-up of 80s talent, the festival will include loads of other festival fun from silent discos to live karaoke bars, as well as food and drink suppliers selling the best of Perthshire produce, making it the summer’s ‘must visit’ event,” said Ms Bruce.

Other events this season include the Easter Extravaganza, offering family fun and a variety of games and activities for youngsters.

More information on all this season’s events is available by visiting www.scone-palace.co.uk

Scone Palace will be open daily from April 1 between 9.30am and 5.30pm, with last admission at 5pm. The grounds remain open each day until 6pm.
