An alcoholic who was caught in his car whilst more than four times the legal limit has been fined £600 at Perth Sheriff Court.

Peter Rocky Dunkley (56), of Wallace Court, Perth, admitted that on September 16 in Jeanfield Road, Perth, he drove with excess alcohol (144 mics). The legal limit is 35.

Depute fiscal Carol Whyte told the court Dunkley was seen at 11.40am on the day in question outside Perth Royal Infirmary.

”The accused was then seen walking away from the hospital and stumbling in a car park,” she said. ”A witness phoned the police.”

The court heard officers stopped Dunkley in nearby Jeanfield Road. He told them he had drunk alcohol around an hour before.

”The accused was later given a breath test and gave a reading of 144 mics,” Ms Whyte added. ”When interviewed by the police in Perth, he told them: ‘I was definitely under the influence of alcohol’.”

Defence solicitor John McLaughlin said his client suffered from alcoholism but was now seeking help.

”My client has referred himself to Highland House in Perth and has also seen his GP. He was given antabuse and has not had any alcohol since.

”His partner had been visiting hospital but he made a mad decision to move his car as she was being kept in. He only moved the vehicle about 200 metres.

”His partner is very supportive of him and has undertaken not to drink so there’s no temptation.”

Antabuse is a drug used as to wean alcoholics from their habit.

Dunkley was also banned from driving for two years.
