VIDEO: major fire at Inveralmond Industrial Estate in Perth
ByNews reporter
Police say a large fire which broke out this morning at Inveralmond Industrial Estate is now all but extinguished.
Although firefighters will remain at the scene for the remainder of the day, the worst of the blaze has been put out. At its peak the blaze sent up a huge plume of thick black smoke which could be seen for many miles around.
Local residents are still being advised to keep their house windows closed, as smoke blows across the area at a lower level and disperses.
Cordons have been lifted and roads around the Ruthvenfield Way area of the industrial estate that were previously closed are again open. The nearby A9 was unaffected. General waste, paper and cardboard had caught alight in the yard of Wyllie Recycling Services. While the cause of the blaze is under investigation, police say it is not thought to be suspicious.
At the fire’s height, fire units had to draw water from the nearby River Almond to help douse the blaze and up to 300 people were evacuated.
All people have been accounted for and no one was reported injured.
