A second pensioner has been targeted by a bogus workman, just one day after a 92-year-old was robbed in her own home.

Officers from Police Scotland are now investigating the possibility that the incidents are linked.

They are looking into the latest incident, which took place at around 12.30pm on August 16 in the Letham area of Perth.

A 64-year-old woman was approached by a man wearing a high visibility vest, who claimed to be carrying out work near her home in Fortingall Place. It has not been revealed what was taken but officers are appealing for information.

The male was described as being in his late 40s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build and with dark hair.

Just a day earlier a man matching some aspects of this description is believed to have targeted another pensioner in the North Muirton area of the city.

It is understood the 92-year-old woman was alone in her Iona Court home when she received an unsolicited visit on August 15 at around 11.45am from a man claiming to be carrying out work.

Again, he was wearing a high-visibility vest and, although he showed her identification, the elderly victim was unable to describe it.

The male is described as being white, in his early 40s and between 5ft 4ins and 5ft 5ins in height.

A police spokesperson said: “There is maintenance work ongoing in this area at present and it is believed the male has used this as an opportunity to commit this offence.

“All local occupants are encouraged to remain particularly vigilant and to double check ID with the relevant company if in any doubt about their credentials.”

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in Fortingall Place or Iona Court at the time of the offences. Members of the public are asked to contact the police on 101, speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, or talk to any officer.
