By the time Kinross athlete Roger Stark crosses the finishing line at the Glenrothes Road Running Festival on June 21 he might easily have run more than 100,000 miles.
“I have never totted up the miles I have run in the past 45 years but it could very easily be into six figures by now,” said 76-year-old Roger.
The Kinross Road Runners coach only started running seriously when he was 32, but in the past four decades he has taken part in events all over the UK and beyond.
“I got into running almost by accident, finding the gym I went to closed for the day when I went along to do some circuit training. I decided to go running instead and I haven’t stopped since.”
Last year Roger won the over-70s section of the Glenrothes Festival, adding another medal to an impressive collection gathered over the years.
“I am hoping to retain the medal this year,” he added. “But with more and more 71- year-olds taking part I have to keep looking over my shoulder for the challenges from these youngsters with their age advantage.”
