Perth skateboarder assaults man who told him to stop speeding along pavement

A skateboarding teenager attacked a pedestrian after being told to stop speeding along a city centre pavement.

George Urquhart, 50, was injured after having his head banged against a restaurant wall because he said “easy, tiger” to skater boy Ryan Moore, 18.

Fiscal depute Bill Kermode told Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday: “Mr Urquhart was walking from a city centre car park.

“The accused and his friend on skateboards crossed his path on the pavement.

“He stopped and stood in front of the accused. He informed them to move onto the road and said ‘easy tiger, what are you doing on the pavement’?

“The accused and the complainer engaged in a confrontation before the accused ran across the junction. The accused then ran back across the junction.

“The complainer took off his glasses because he believed the accused was about to hit him because he appeared angry. He hit him and pushed him against the wall of Pizza Express.”

The court was told that Mr Urquhart was knocked to the ground and had to be taken to Perth Royal Infirmary where he required a number of paper stitches.

Moore, Annat Road, Perth, admitted assaulting Mr Urquhart in South Methven Street by striking him with his hand and then hitting his head off a wall at Pizza Express on April 18 last year.

The teenager admitted to the police that he had assaulted Mr Urquhart, but claimed that he had been provoked and subjected to abuse by his victim.

Sheriff Fiona Tait deferred sentence for reports and said: “You had the opportunity to walk away. You walked away and then came back and the assault took place.”
