Driver found car was doing more miaows per gallon

The rescued kitten.

A Perth motorist was stunned to find his vehicle had gained a new car-purr-ator.

Andy McDonald heard the cries of a weeks-old kitten as he arrived home in Perth from Edinburgh last Friday night.

But it would be several more days before he could find the feline as it moved to his son’s Ford Mondeo.

Despite using up one of its nine lives travelling 43 miles to the Fair City, the kitten has been described as being in good health.

Neighbour Stuart Cowper said he believed the cold, frightened animal had swapped cars to find warmth.

He said: “On Monday night Andy and Nikki’s son came to the house and this time the cries were coming from his car.

“Presumably the cat had swapped cars because the heat from the engine of the son’s car was more accommodating than the then cold engine of Andy’s car.

“My mum Edith and I joined in the hunt for the frisky feline and after about 20 minutes I got a sight of it in the space underneath the engine between the wheels.

“It continued to walk back and forth and at one point set the car alarm off.”

The cat was eventually persuaded that a tin of tuna was preferable to its hiding place.

Stuart said: “Despite its miaows the kitten didn’t seem distressed and as soon as it was held it never made a peep.”

The animal is now in the care of the Scottish SPCA but was found not to have a microchip. An online appeal has been made to find its owner but no one has claimed it yet.

Stuart added: “It’s in quite good health and its coat wasn’t dirty or mangy, which you might expect if it was a stray that had wandered about for a wee while.”
