Week of overnight lane closures ahead on Friarton Bridge

Week of overnight lane closures ahead on Friarton Bridge

Overnight roadworks are to start on Monday on the Friarton Bridge at Perth.

Transport Scotland is spending £30,000 on the work, which it says will allow specialist teams to assess the condition of the bridge and identify areas in need of repair.

Beginning on Monday, all work will take place overnight between 7.30pm and 6.30am to minimise disruption towards peak-time traffic, with no work taking place on Saturday nights.

Overnight lane closures will be required on the bridge for seven nights. In addition, further routine maintenance is planned for the Craigend junction on the M90 at the southbound and northbound slips to the Broxden Roundabout.

As a result, a full closure of the southbound slip road will take place overnight next Friday, with traffic diverted via Bridge of Earn.

The northbound slip road at Craigend interchange for Perth and Broxden roundabout will be closed overnight on December 8, completing the programme of works.

Perth traffic will be diverted via the A912 at M90 junction nine at Bridge of Earn, while traffic for the Broxden roundabout will be diverted via the Friarton Bridge.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s northeast representative, said: “Every effort will be made to minimise the duration of the lane and slip road closures, to reduce disruption to motorists.

“We do not anticipate any significant delays; however, we encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.

“The planned investigation works will allow us to assess the condition of the Friarton Bridge and will enable us to effectively plan any future remedial action. This is all part of our commitment to ensuring that the north-east road network continues to operate at the highest standard.

“Our routine maintenance programme is essential to the continued safe operation of the trunk road network.”

The work will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with police, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.
