Fears have been raised Blairgowrie’s police station could be axed entirely after plans were unveiled to close its counter.
It is understood the concerns have been raised with politicians by people within the single police service.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said the decision to close the counter had already upset locals and urged Police Scotland to support the station.
“Many local residents will be angered at this decision (to close the counters) and genuine fears have arisen over the station’s future.
“Losing Blairgowrie Police Station would be a major blow and Police Scotland must publicly commit to its future.”
Blairgowrie and Glens councillor Caroline Shiers said: “We have seen so many changes in the community officers, for a number of reasons, over the past year.
“I have sought assurances from Police Scotland that there is a meaningful commitment to community policing in the Blairgowrie area so that we can continue to enjoy the low levels of crime and feelings of security which we enjoy at the moment.”
