THE ARTISTIC talents of young Perth people are being displayed on billboards around the Fair City.
The advertising boards highlighting the ARTIST ROOMS exhibition of works by Robert Mapplethorpe, currently at Perth Museum and Art Gallery, are also displaying local pieces.
Inspired by Mapplethorpe’s own self-portraits, pupils from Perth Academy, Perth Grammar School and Perth High School, and young people from Perth College and Scone youth group, created self-portraits reflecting their own characters and how they want the wider world to see them.
The billboards can be seen under the railway bridge on Marshall Place and at the Feus Road traffic lights, near the fire station.
Forthcoming events relating to the Mapplethorpe exhibition will be held early next year.
Leading art historian Professor Martin Kemp will give an illustrated lecture, Mapplethorpe and The Masters, at Perth Museum and Art Gallery on Monday January 14 at 7.30pm.
On Saturday February 9, a masterclass in portrait photography, inspired by Mapplethorpe’s work, will be led by Caroline Douglas between 10am and 4pm, also at the Museum and Art Gallery.
Booking is essential for the session, which costs £50 per person.
