An organisation that helps ordinary people save lives is to hold classes in Pitlochry for the first time next week.
Heartstart Discovery started in Dundee in 1997 and has expanded to other areas of Tayside but until now has never offered classes in Pitlochry.
Co-ordinator Helen Brady said the move in to Pitlochry was as a result of public demand. People from the town wishing to participate have travelled to Perth for classes until now.
The two-hour classes that teach emergency life-saving skills will be on offer on Monday and Thursday next week in Pitlochry.
Almost 30,000 people in Tayside have been trained in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and other life support skills so they can try and keep a patient alive until an ambulance arrives.
The actions of Fiona Morgan in saving Jim Dolan at Fintry Primary School made front-page news and demonstrated the benefit of Heartstart training.
The first few moments after a person has a heart attack are vital and immediate help can mean the difference between life and death, and the techniques taught by Heartstart can buy time and increase the chances of survival.
Many schools now offer classes, with teachers trained to teach life support skills.
Five years ago the life of a Dundee school janitor was saved when a teacher who had been through the Heartstart course recognised he was having a heart attack and knew exactly what to do to help him.
