Painstaking work is under way to conserve a stained-glass tribute to national hero William Wallace.
The colourful window at the Wallace Monument overlooking Stirling is being cleaned and mended by specialists Rab MacInnes and Linda Cannon, who described the project as the trickiest in her 30-year career.
The five-part artwork has to be removed panel by panel and examined before getting expert treatment.
The window is expected to be returned to its former glory by February after three months’ work.
Mrs Cannon, who is based in Glasgow, said: “They are beautifully made, I must say, but it is probably the most difficult project I have worked on in 30 years.”
The stained-glass windows were not installed until 1886, the work of Edinburgh company James Ballantine & Son, who charged £210 for the commission.
