Proud parents have welcomed some leap year arrivals across Tayside, joining around five million people globally who share the special birthday.
At Victoria Hospital’s maternity unit, in Kirkcaldy, Cowdenbeath mum Monica Clapon, 28, gave birth to Alexandru Viorel at 8.12am.
Alexandru arrived weighing 10lb 3oz and is alittle brother to Ms Clapon’s three-year-old daughter.
About 10 minutes later, Megan King and Liam Sharp met their second daughter for the first time.
The little girl, who has yet to be named, weighed 7lb 11oz and is little sister to Brooke, who is two.
Thrilled Ms King, 25, said she was delighted with her new arrival, but that her quick labour took her by surprise.
Mr Sharp, also 25, had to rush back from his work in Dunfermline.
He left yesterday morning thinking her contractions were a false alarm.
“I woke up having contractions, but thought I was being a drama queen,” said Ms King.
Not many parents plan their children’s birthday parties four years in advance.
But that’s just what Perth mum Rebecca Reid is doing for her newborn daughter’s first birthday.
Rebecca Sharp was born at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, weighing 7lb 7oz.
As a ‘leapling’ born on February 29, Rebecca’s official birthday will only take place once every four years.
Her mum said they would celebrate her non-leap year birthdays on March 1 the same day as her gran.
Rebecca said she had no idea her daughter would be born on February 29 as she had been due seven days earlier.
The two Rebeccas and dad Michael Sharp returned home to Perth last night where their new arrival got to meet her brothers and sister, Lewis, 6, Jessica, 4, William, 3 and Jake, 1.
In Angus, meanwhile, Chloe Beattie celebrated the birth of son Kaison, supported by friends and family.
She returned home to Forfar with her healthy 9lb 7oz baby boy alongside her proud mum and step-dad.
