Lulu has joined the line-up at this year’s Wickerman festival as she marks her 50th year in music.

The singer is releasing a new album this month and will take part in her first UK tour in a decade later this year, including a headline performance at the Dumfries festival in July.

Lulu, who sang at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer, will perform on the main Wickerman stage on the second day of the festival.

Squeeze and “punk poet” John Cooper Clarke have also been added to the list of performers.

The 1970s band will headline on the first night of the festival, July 24, while Cooper Clarke will perform in the Scooter Tent the following day.

The Waterboys, Example and Tom Odell have already been confirmed on the line-up.

The festival takes place at East Kirkcarswell Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, where the classic 1973 film The Wicker Man was made.

This year’s event will be the first without co-founder Jamie Gilroy, who died late last year at his home on the farm where the festival is staged.

Now entering its 14th consecutive year, there will be nine stages with a mixture of musical genres, alternative acts and up-and-coming talent.

It culminates with the burning of a 40ft wickerman in front of the crowds.

Organiser Grainne Braithwaite said: “We are so excited to have Squeeze, Lulu and John Cooper Clarke joining this year’s line-up.

“All three acts are icons in their different musical genres, so to bring them all together alongside The Waterboys and Tom Odell will make for an unforgettable celebration of British talent, past and present.

“The Wickerman team is gearing up to make this year’s festival one to really remember, so fans can expect a whole host of exciting Wicker news over the coming months.”
