It is the most romantic day of the year.
Valentine’s Day a time for love and affection. A time to share a special moment with a loved one. A time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life to let somebody special know just how much you love them.
That’s one view.
The other is that it is little more than a time of rampant commercialism as greedy retailers use every trick in the book to part lovelorn punters from their hard-earned cash.
People in the UK spent some £978m on their prospective partners for Valentine’s Day last year.
Men spent an average of £39.57 while women shelled out £22.64.
