A murder investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was found in a freezer at her home.
Police forced their way into the council flat in Tyseley Road, Portsmouth, last Tuesday after concerns were raised about the welfare of the “older” woman, who has been named locally as Louise Brough.
A 53-year-old man, from Southsea, was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. He is due to report back to police in November.
Officers attended the address after Portsmouth City Council became concerned about the woman’s well-being.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said initial inquiries indicated that “there is no risk to the wider community”.
Formal identification procedures and a post-mortem examination have not yet taken place.
The police spokesman said: “Until a post-mortem examination has taken place we are unable to confirm when the woman died.
“The woman was located inside a property in Wilmcote House. We are not able to confirm further details relating to this as it could form part of evidence used by the prosecution should the case come to court. We are in the process of locating next of kin to conduct formal identification procedures.”
