Raith Rovers’ boss John McGlynn was an interested spectator at Central Park on Tuesday night as Cowdenbeath secured what could prove to be a priceless victory over Ross County.
Jimmy Nicholl’s side remain second bottom of the table, in the relegation play-off spot, but their win moved them to within one point of the Staggies.
Rovers are just two points behind league leaders Dunfermline, and with the Pars idle this weekend, they could go top of the table if they beat Cowdenbeath.
However, after witnessing the Blue Brazil’s win in midweek, McGlynn is taking nothing for granted.
“I went along to Cowdenbeath after our training session on Tuesday and managed to see a bit of the first half and all of the second,” he said.
“It was a great result for Cowdenbeath. Jimmy Nicholl and Colin Cameron are doing an exceptional job there.
“They are now only one point behind Ross County and three behind Dundee so those teams are within their reach. They will have received a massive boost from their victory over County.
“So we will treat them with a lot of respect and ensure our attitude is right and we are focused. It goes without saying how vital three points would be for us.”
With just five games to go until the end of the season, McGlynn has cut back on training sessions with the focus firmly on retaining sharpness.
“It is a case of keeping everyone ticking over at the moment,” he added. “It is all about sharpness and conserving energy for matches. The lads are still relatively fit, certainly compared to last year.
We had so many games to cram in such a short space of time, it really stretched our squad and the lads were out on their feet.
“It is completely different this season. We have a few injuries and suspensions, but we are coping well.”
