Arbroath boss Todd Lumsden hopes side are peaking again at right time

Arbroath's Simon Murray.

Arbroath boss Todd Lumsden is hoping his side are regaining top form at exactly the right time with the first leg of their promotion play-off semi-final taking place at Gayfield tonight.

The Red Lichties put five past Berwick last weekend with Simon Murray chipping in with two of the goals.

The striker has now netted four times in the last five games and looks back to his best after suffering a slump when he failed to score in 10 matches.

Lumsden is hoping the 23-year-old, who was snapped up earlier this season by Dundee United before being loaned straight back to Arbroath, can continue with his newfound scoring streak against Queen’s Park.

The manager said: “I was really pleased with the win and performance on Saturday against Berwick.

“I was also happy with the displays in the previous games against Queen’s Park and Albion Rovers.

“So hopefully we are hitting form again at the right time as we look forward to the play-offs.

“It was also good to see Simon Murray scoring another two goals and hopefully he can continue that against Queen’s Park.

“His form maybe dipped a little bit earlier in the season and there were a variety of possible reasons for that.

“Teams started changing the way they play to counter him and his body may have taken time to adjust to full-time training with Dundee United.

“But he has now scored four times in the last five matches which is a great return.

“Our games against Queen’s Park this season have been tight and I don’t think either team will run away with the play-off.

“They have a lot of good players and we will have to match their qualities.”

On-loan Liam Rowan has picked up a knock playing for Falkirk’s under-20 squad and misses out along with the long-term injured Adam Hunter and Paul McManus.
