Forfar chairman thanks club’s fans for ‘tremendous’ backing

Alastair Donald.

Forfar chairman Alastair Donald has lavished praise on the club’s fans and hopes as many of them as possible will be at Station Park this afternoon for what could be a landmark occasion in the club’s history.

Manager Dick Campbell and his team will attempt to take all three points against Ayr United and hope they can pip Morton to the League One title.

And Donald is in no doubt just how much of a difference the fans have made in what is already a successful campaign.

The chairman said: “I think it was around the end of the first quarter, I had my suspicions that this could be a good season for us and I asked the fans to back the team.

“They have done so beyond all our expectations and have been turning out in great numbers both home and away.

“They have really stepped up to the plate.

“We had tremendous backing again at Dunfermline last week and the players are talking about it in training and the manager speaks about it in the boardroom.

“People often talk about fans making a difference but it isn’t until you are on the other side of the coin, so to speak, that you realise just how important they are on match day and what a difference they can make.

“We went 1-0 down at Stenhousemuir a few weeks ago but when we equalised I was in no doubt we would then go on and win because of the backing we had.

“I am sure we will get a substantial turn-out again against Ayr.

“The amount of goodwill has been overwhelming from phone calls to people stopping me in the street.

“Morton are in pole position but no matter what happens, we have had a great season and at the very least we will still be in the play-offs with another chance of promotion.”
