Arbroath are improving, says manager

Arbroath boss Todd Lumsden is looking to turn improving performances into points with a win at Berwick Rangers today.

The Gayfield side prop up League Two at the moment, however Lumsden saw enough in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat from Queen’s Park to suggest that his new look squad is knitting together, especially as his skipper and a new striker could start at Shielfield.

Lumsden said: “The performance against Queen’s Park was much better than in previous weeks. I was disappointed at not winning let alone not even getting a point. We created chances but lost two bad goals.

“We went through how they were lost with the players at training this week and hopefully lessons have been learned. We are now looking to crack on and get the win that would get things going for us. The league is tight and if we get a win we pull ourselves closer to the pack of clubs on six points.”

Lumsden added: “Berwick had a good result at Stirling last weekend and they will have enjoyed playing at Kilmarnock on Tuesday albeit they got beaten. It will be a tough game but it is a game that we can win if we progress again from our performance last Saturday.”

Club captain Mark Whatley made an appearance as a substitute against the Glasgow side and he could start as could Joao Victoria who is now a signed player and looking to build on his goal last weekend.

Lumsden said: “They both did well when they came on and could have bigger roles to play this time.”

Graham Hay could return after a knock.
